I babysat my nephew Ben last night. It was great. He is very cute and is at the stage of rapidly expanding his vocab. He soaks up anything you say and repeats it with great delight. I have spent a highly amusing time with him, teaching him vocab like, "Hammer Time"and "jaundice". Mild abuse of aunty position but it makes me laugh. My sister, the yuppy, takes him out to Starbucks with her and orders him a 'babyccino" which is milk in a mini coffee cup, with frothed milk on top and a marshmallow on the side. Yes, seriously. Groom them young!
Speaking of hot drinks, I have a see-through electric kettle. I made myself a hot-water bottle the other night and watched it boil. Proof, I think, against the old adage that it won't do that if you're watching it. It also led me to question how the kettle knows when the water is boiling to turn itself off. My answer? It must have some kind of thermostat inside.
Now you remember why you come here, eh?
